Can David Ortiz outperform his contemporaries in his last year

Here is a look at some of David Ortiz's peers throughout his last 19 years in MLB. and how they have done in their last two years of their careers. It does not look like it bodes well for a productive year for Big Papi at age 40.

Below are the combined statistics for Derek Jeter, Frank Thomas, Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey, Jr., Jim Thome, Gary Sheffield and Fred McGriff for their 2nd to last season of their careers and for the last season of their careers.

The only stat that doesn't drop of precipitously is batting average. HR's go down 50%, RBI's go down 50%, games played down 25%, doubles down almost 50%.

Can Ortiz break the trend?
